The CBR approach focuses on enhancing the quality of life, access to services and promoting the rights and inclusion of individuals with disabilities within their own communities.
Here’s a brief overview of how the CBR approach typically works:
1. Community Involvement
CBR emphasizes the role of local communities in supporting and integrating PwDs. It involves community members, local organizations, and authorities in the planning and implementation of programs.
2. Multi sectoral Approach
The project usually spans various sectors such as health, education, livelihood, and social inclusion. This ensures that the needs of PwDs are addressed comprehensively.
3. Empowerment and Capacity Building
CBR programs focus on empowering PwDs and their families by providing them with skills, resources, and support. This could include vocational training, access to education, or health care services.
4. Advocacy and Awareness
Raising awareness about disability issues and advocating for the rights of PwDs are key components. This helps reduce stigma and encourages societal acceptance.
5. Sustainability
The approach aims to create sustainable solutions by building local capacity and resources, ensuring that communities can continue to support PwDs over time.
Overall, CBR projects seek to improve accessibility, promote social inclusion, and enhance the overall well-being of persons with disabilities within their communities.
